What You Had to Say about Johan's TriFest 2002 L. S.: Terrific race organization for a 1st race! The course was terrific, but the organization, volunteers and dedication was a tribute to Johan. If you have more racers in the coming years, you may want more than one wave start. Great race, loved the run and all the support in the resort community. The race director did an awesome job and I have done over 150 races and this was top notch! Thanks for all your work in putting on a great race in memory of Johan. I look forward to racing there next year. C. D. B., Rochester Hills, MI: Wonderful race! I like the size, the course, the volunteers, the entire event was one of the best ever. Waiting in line for massage was my least favorite thing, though I enjoyed talking to several people while I waited. Next year have Lisa bring some of her fellow massage students. She was really good! Thanks for a great weekend. I am already recruiting in the Rochester area for next year's race. D. J.: Thanks for a great race! It looked like you have been doing this for years, rather than for the first time. Very impressive officials and volunteers, both in quantity and quality. I wasn't quite ready for the heat, so try to do something about that for next year. : ) Speaking of heat, I was really enjoying the pre-race music selections.... Thanks again for putting this on. I didn't know Johan, but he must have been pretty special to have inspired an event like this. I'm sure he would be (is) proud. J. D.: Thanks for putting together a great race I really enjoyed. I've got two possible suggestions for next year. First, sprinklers on the run course. If it is this hot again next year and there is some way to set them up in the campground it would be huge. Second, the mass start was not nearly as bad as I was anticipating. But if the number of participants grows I would recommend a couple of waves. That's all. Thanks for a great race and I hope to see the race next year. S. B., Weaton, IL: I didn't know Johan personally, but I have done races that he did. I am sure he would be proud to have his name associated with this race. Johan's Tri took all of the needs of the racers into account down to the small things that many times go unnoticed. I traveled from outside Chicago to do the race anticipating another good Michigan race. But you guys outdid yourselves! It is rare to travel to a race and find EVERYTHING in order, working with ease and the volunteers happy to be there. Securing the transition so that athletes are only to be in there is a treat. The transition area also gave each athlete ample space to lay out towels and necessary things for the race. The course was well marked AND had 4-5 volunteers at every possible turn or confusion of the course. I could NOT have taken a wrong turn even if I tried. The course was the distance it claimed to be (no shortened swim). The run through the community was great because so many people were out there cheering us on.... The water stations were well planned out with all athletes knowing that gatorade was first and water second.... The COLD, wet towels at the end were a wonderful treat. I love that the volunteers happily took my chip off my ankle.... .... But I just have to tell you one last time how amazed I was with the volunteers. Never have I encountered so many kind helpful people.... All I can think is that Johan must have been a wonderful person and I am sorry I never knew him. To have friends like the people who were volunteering shows the human spirit he had and what he brought out in others. I'm sure he was smiling watching this race. Thank you for putting on the best race! I look forward to returning next year! S. W.: Hello. I was a volunteer at this year's race and I heard many positive comments about the event. First of all...great job! Excellent organization, and super course. I hope to participate next year. Secondly, if it can be helped, don't cut back the amount of volunteers you have. This was one of the positive comments I heard. Thirdly, you should provide an "input" option on the Johan website so people can post or provide to you, their opinions about the event. I think you would be pleased with the response. Great work! K. S.: Thanks for the great race on Saturday. I really enjoyed it and I was very impressed with the race all together, expecially considering that this was a first time race. I espcially like the number of volunteers... the ratio of volunteers to racers must have been quite high. I also like all the fan support on the run course through the resort. The only thing I might change would be to move some of the volunteers in order to create one more aid station on the run. Three aid stations was light considering the heat and humidity.... D. B., FL: You put on a great race especially considering it was the first time event. Enjoyed the mass start, tons of volunteers at all intersections and nice run course in the camp ground with lots of cheering campers. Coming from Florida I could do without the rolling bike course but thanks for the heat and humidity. Runners were dropping like flies once I got to the 4 mile mark, but I needed a couple extra miles if I was going to place in the top 5. Hope there will be a 2nd next summer.
