What You Had to Say about Johan's TriFest 2005 M. L., Holland, MI: Once again, you've done Johan proud. This race is an absolute pleasure everytime I get a chance to participate. The one thing that continues to amaze me is that it has yet to sell out all the slots!! I tell everyone I see that this is the best run race in Southwest Michigan. The water is clean, the bike course is though, yet smooth, and the run is one of the most watched courses ever. The voluneers are great and your can't beat the folks who organize this thing. Your crew does a great job every year.. Please, keep up the good work. This race is truly a diamond in the rough. B.L.: Thanks again for a great race on Saturday. You and your team do a Fantastic job! Our family had a great time and we'll be back! N.M.: The race was very well organized and was the best course I have been on in Michigan. I have not done a lot of trathlons (2 really), but I have done tons of road races; this was definately one of the best experiences I have had. All the volunteers worked hard to make sure the race went off without a hitch and were very open to opinions of how the race was run and setup. With such great organization, the only thing I had to worry about was racing and that is how it should be. Johan's was a great race and I am sure I will be back next year. Thanks for making the race so enjoyable. D. J. O. Everything was run very well. Although it is only my second race ever, I don't have much to critique. The bike picture from courtside is very good. A few suggestions--these are not complaints but ways to make it perfect. 1. The start was a bit confusing because we couldn'thear the PA in the water and everyone was talking. It did work out in the end. Someone in a boat at the start to hold everyone back would be good. 2. I would include the transition area diagram in the race packet and maybe the course maps. 3. The second 90 degree turn on the bike course was dangerous with the loose gravel on the outside. 4. The second turnaround on the bike course could be more clearly marked. Suggest having someone stand beyond the turnaround just in case someone misses it. 5. (Not to complain but...) It would be good to have a t-shirt in a finer, wicking material like the Strider Club shirts. The towel at the finish was a nice touch. Great organization and hospitality. I would have been happy to give more to VAI as an entry fee. THANK YOU: A sincere thank you to the volunteers who made Johan's TriFest 2004 such a success. We received so many positive and encouraging comments from the athletes, spectators, Sandy Pines residents and volunteers themselves. We couldn't have celebrated this event without YOU! You all played a huge part in making Johan's the successful triathlon it is. Thank you too to our sponsors: DeBryun Seed Co., Herb Ritsema, Jay & Betty Van Andel Foundation, The Printery, Rohde, Sandy Pines, Spartan Stores, Steiner-Wolff, Striders, Triangle Window Fashions, Van Andel Institute Hope on the Hill, and Village Bike Shop.
