Johan’s TriFest 2008 News – March 2008

 

’08 Race Season is  approaching!

Race day is Saturday, June 21.  There’s still a layer of ice on Lake Monterey but the good news is the shanties have been taken down for the season.  It’s recommended you use a wetsuit for any early spring open water swims.

 

Johan’s Sanctioned by USAT

Once again, Johan’s TriFest will be sanctioned by USAT.  This means all of their rules apply.  Check out all the rules and regulations on the USAT website. 

 

Registration is Open

Online registration is available through  Active.com.  Applications can also be picked up at Striders and many running stores and local bike shops in Michigan.  Registration fees increase on June 1st.  Unfortunately, tee shirts cannot be guaranteed to participants who register in the last weeks of open registration   There will be No Race Day Registration or transfers.

 

Johan’s part of MERCRS

This year, Johan’s will again be a part of the USAT Mid East Region Club Race Series (MERCRS).  If you’re a  member of a USAT registered triathlon club,  your club will be part of this race series.  The mideast region includes Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Kentucky.  For more information on the USAT MidEast Region and the MERCRS, check out their website.

 

Where’s the Race Site?

Johan’s TriFest is held on the east side Sandy Pines Resort in Hopkins, Michigan. The race site address is: 3631 26th St Dorr, MI 49323-9538.  If you use a different online mapping program and the Dorr address doesn’t work, try Hopkins, Michigan instead.

 

Volunteers ALWAYS Appreciated

Do you have a friend or relative that does not want to compete in Johan’s TriFest , but would love to participate somehow ?  Volunteer registration still has opportunities available.  All volunteers will receive an exclusive volunteer t-shirt and tons of thanks.  If you know someone that would like to donate some of their time volunteering, we would appreciate the help.  Contact us through the volunteer link on the website or email us at johanstrifest@aol.com.

There’s  a list of a variety of places to stay which are as close as possible to the race site.  This is by no means a comprehensive list of places in west Michigan and we don’t have any deals going on with any of the hotels.  If you do stay in the area, let us know about the good places and the not-so-good places since we would eventually like to offer deals through a host hotel.
